What is Awaji Uzusuke?
- The message behind the character -
The birth of Awaji Uzusuke was inspired by the uzushio whirlpools of the Naruto Strait, and his soothing presence combines the strength of nature found in whirlpools and the kind, friendly warmth of a gentle tide. Awaji Uzusuke lives alongside nature, sharing the importance of protecting the ocean and the earth’s environment with people of every generation, from children to adults. He wants to learn about and protect the sea and nature with you. With that wish in mind, Awaji Uzusuke, wants to set off together with you on a thrilling adventure!

Uzushio whirlpools seeking World Heritage status!

(Upcycle art project)
To share the importance of protecting the ocean and the earth’s environment with people of every age, a charity merchandise will be available for purchase to support the beach cleanup activities on Awaji Island.
We upcycled recycled plastic that includes plastic retrieved from the ocean, and combined it with materials suited to the design and strength requirements of each component part to create a keychain. The main body is molded from recycled acrylic with accents of recycled PET and other materials, while the whirlpool-motif charm is made from upcycled plastic bottle caps. Approximately 15% of the entire product is made from plastic collected on the beaches and other locations in Minamiawaji City.
Through this product, we hope to bring people the opportunity to reflect on the environments of the ocean and nature. Proceeds from sales will be donated to the volunteer organizations conducting beach cleanup and other activities on Awaji Island. Together with local residents, we aim to support efforts toward the registration of the Uzushio whirlpools as a World Heritage Site through actions that protect the whirlpools and the ocean.
